Road Surface

road surface marking signs

Road surface or pavement is the durable surface material laid down on the topping layer of road intended to sustain vehicular or pedestrian, such as a road or walkway. In the past, gravel road surfaces, cobblestone and granite setts (pitcher) were extensively used, but these surfaces have mostly been replaced by asphalt or concrete today.

Well constructed road surfaces are frequently marked lines to guide traffic. Road markings divided the road into lanes and sidewalks.
